The collection is borne out of the belief that being ancient in spirit, yet modern in expression is the perfect scenario to remain consistent and relevant in our ever changing world of sustainable fashion.

Aro Ewa simply translated as ‘Dyed Beauty’is the recreation of contemporary patterns; employing old age historical techniques, coupled with the rich indigo dye, reminiscent of African indigenous designs, in order to celebrate our old Adire heritage.

At the heart of the collection, ensuring sustainability of the fashion value chain is paramount; from farmer to designer, the use of cotton fabric grown and milled in Nigeria, and our collaboration with other creatives in the industry like Denike online, Henri Uduku and Busayo Longe attests to our commitment to showcasing our brand ethos of ‘Made in Nigeria’.

Bellafricana Creative Breakfast August Meet-up

With a name like Bellafricana verified, you probably wondered if the Bellafricana creative community is any fun.

Well, yes, the community is fun and many other things included. While the aim is to get indigenous brands selling locally and globally, there are also opportunities for members of the  Bellafricana Verified community to meet up and have fun.

One of such opportunities was the ‘Bellafricana Creative Breakfast August Meet up’ which occurred on the 3rd of August, 2019, with the theme ‘Life & Business’. The event which took place at the Lagos Tea House, Lekki was an opportunity for members to talk about balancing life and business in the everyday world.

This event which had over 30 members and 15 non members in attendance was filled with laugh, talks on balancing business and of course, good food!

Aso Oke is a short form of Aso Ilu Oke also known as Aso-Ofi meaning clothes from the up-country. It is the traditional wear of the Yoruba’s (the tribe of the southwest people in Nigeria, Africa).

NEPC cannot do it alone, we are the export we seek

Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) truly cannot do it alone, we are the export we seek.

I always hear of small businesses wanting to start exporting.

Interestingly, some are yet to even grow capacity enough to serve Ibadan not to talk of Lagos, then Nigeria, then Intra-trade and International trade.

I mean, I get it and in fact it’s the right thing to have the end goal in mind or have a bigger market in mind.

Yes, even here at Bellafricana our dream is that one day, every one of our verified members will be selling to consumers globally, but realistically we also say let’s start with more consumers locally and then grow a sustainable brand with global demands.

The Development Bank of Nigeria Entrepreneurship Training Programme is an initiative by the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) aimed at equipping micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the skills and competencies to defend sound and viable business proposals, improve their access to available credit, and improve their capacity for efficient funds utilization, trade, investments and access to markets.

This programme is said to help address the Entrepreneurship and Business Management skill gaps of Nigerian MSMEs.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the programme you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • The applicant must be a Nigerian
  • The applicant must be 18 years and above
  • The applicant must have a viable business that is registered and operated in Nigeria
  • The applicant’s business must be for profit from any sector
  • The applicant must possess a minimum educational qualification of Senior Secondary School Certificate
  • The applicant must be able to carry out the application process online
  • The applicant must be available to commit to the training schedule once accepted

Training Format

Well developed curriculum customized to fit the needs of the MSMEs and Experienced Faculty

Delivery Method: A blended format of face-to-face and online training

Duration: Over a 2 month period for SMEs and over a 1 month period for Micro-Enterprises

Voluntary Advisory Sessions by Industry Experts as soon as training is completed and 5 months after training is completed

One of the major goal of every business is to grow both nationally and globally in order to attract a large customer base and make sales; but honestly, making sales is one of the most important thing; for me of course, and I am sure you agree.

Push aside the question of how you can grow your small business into a large business and focus more on strategies to grow your business, and how to expand your small business in order to get more customers.

Although, one of the questions we forget to ask ourselves is if our business can actually succeed in the international market. The international market is quite competitive, but easy to break into. Thinking your business will survive globally does not necessarily mean it will. That is why you need a new strategy.

If you truly want to expand your customer base globally, then you need to focus on your business strategy and the growth of your business such that it attracts more customers. Click here to find out you can start the process of taking your business globally.

In a business, new/existing customers breathe life into a business. Imagine a business without customers; it certainly cannot grow because they keep your company running as your business is “for them”.

As such, you should know who your consumers are. Know who you are targeting, think about their pain point and find out how your products can make their lives better.

You should also avoid targeting everyone in the market and instead, narrow down your ideal customer. For example, imagine someone who sells iPhone cases targeting every phone user in the market when there are Samsung users, Techno users and so on. What if there are very few iPhone users in his locale? That means little or no business for him.

Few products interests a vast majority of people, and targeting everyone in the market will prevent you from making sales or even developing targeted strategies to attract customer. If you do not know your customer base then your business cannot grow because you will keep going after the wrong people.

Social media is such a powerful tool as it connects everyone around the world; making it the best place to reach a more global audience and market your products.

There are so many social networks to choose from. From Twitter to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Snapchat, Youtube, Reddit, Tumblr, etc, you can practically market your products on different channels and expand your bsiness.
