Bukky Asehinde, helping Entrepreneurs through her platform: Bellafricana

Bukky-Asehinde

Bukky Asehinde, helping Entrepreneurs through her platform: Bellafricana.

Whether they choose to admit it or not, the goal of every business or product owner is to be noticed and patronised by people outside the shores of their country.

One problem business owners have faced for years is making their products noticed by other consumers apart from those within their vicinity.

Getting products noticed by global consumers is always difficult for Africa’s creative women entrepreneurs, but this challenge represented an opportunity for Bukky Asehinde, Founder of Bellafricana. Her platform is giving visibility to Nigeria’s creative business owners and their quality products.

Bellafricana, is a platform that empowers, supports and connects quality, talented and creative indigenous businesses to their local and global consumers.

Starting with Nigeria, their goal is to take it one African Country at a time.

Bellafricana Flier

Bukky created a platform to enable creative MSMEs to thrive, whilst doing all it takes to bring the quality products to the forefront of the market. She believes very much that a support group/community for these businesses will enhance the non-oil export in the African economy.

Bukky was inspired to start this up when she noticed a rise in the number of creative indigenous (made in Nigeria, Africa) brands that have great quality, yet are struggling to grow their business with little or no financing from both the government and bigger institutions.

She wondered for a long time, “Why should we wait on financial backing from the government and big institutions to help this industry, when we can create a platform to connect these Indigenous businesses who are maximising raw materials in Nigeria (Africa), providing employment for local talents within the country and creating wealth for the Nation?”. And so she conducted a research, which made her realize that one of the major challenges these businesses were facing majorly has to do with marketing and understanding the trade, which is the heart of any business.

This birthed Bellafricana, a community that showcases the products of local entrepreneurs to a wider audience, both locally and globally.

Bukky finds satisfaction as an entrepreneur because she is able to contribute to the growth of the economy, making an impact that will outlive her, and touching lives.

Bukky Asehinde, helping Entrepreneurs through her platform: Bellafricana

Bukky Asehinde, helping Entrepreneurs through her platform: Bellafricana.

Her counsel to women who are trying to start a business is simple:

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH WISE & POSITIVE PEOPLE:

This is so vital especially when you know your personality type. I am an extrovert and a positive person, so having negative people around me was a no no. This I know has certainly helped my journey. Another key one is surrounding yourself with wise people, as the bible says also “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed”.

GET MENTORS:

It’s important to have mentors who key into the vision of what you do and are thought leaders in their various sectors not necessarily celebrities. How? (you might ask) by keeping a relationship with them and striking a mutually beneficial balance of what they do, they will give you more than their time when you show you care.”

Bellafricana is that “support system” every creative business owner needs to be globally accessible.

Holiday in Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

Holiday in Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

The gateway to Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago is Vilanculos and Inhassoro – a chain of coastal town of four large islands: Bazaruto, Benguerra, Santa Isobel and Santa Carolina (formerly known as Paradise Island).

Strung out in the Indian Ocean, the two smaller islands are uninhabited, while the others have a few small villages scattered amongst wild orange and cashew nut trees. These are places to relax, to escape and to explore. The area is now protected as a conservation area and national park, including the coral reefs surrounding the islands, making it the only official marine reserve in the country. The park is one of the largest in the Indian Ocean and a crucial achievement in global marine conservation. A nearly untouched paradise on earth, the archipelago has earned its reputation as the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’.

Islands and beach lodges in the Bazaruto Archipelago

Benguerra Lodge

Benguerra Lodge & pool

Benguerra Lodge..

On the smaller, more populated, Benguerra Island you’ll find the well-established Benguerra Lodge. It’s the oldest lodge in the Bazaruto Archipelago. Benguerra Lodge is built amidst tropical gardens beside a long pale-sand beach and has a North African feel. It’s a peaceful destination for couples, and children’s chalets make it good-value for families. Benguerra offers a wide range of activities, but there is plenty of opportunity to just relax and enjoy the area. (Read more about Benguerra Lodge…)

Marlin Lodge - pool side

marlin-executive-suite-01-smMarlin Lodge - restuarantMarlin Lodge overlooks the tranquil Flamingo bay. The chalets are built on wooden stilts and most have a private boardwalk directly onto the beach. Marlin Lodge is relaxed but luxurious, and very smoothly run. (Read more about Marlin Lodge…)

Azura Mozambique

Villa-Amizadeazura-benguerra-villa-amizadeThe newest lodge – Azura Mozambique – is the most elegant beach lodge in the Bazaruto Archipelago. It’s situated within the marine national park and each villa is set amongst indigenous trees and bushes, only footsteps from the beach. Azura Mozambique is smart and romantic, with particularly good service and food. Azura’s choice of activities is wide, and its spa promises to be top quality. (Read more about Azura Mozambique…)

Indigo Bay Island Resort

Indigo Bay Island Resort..Indigo Bay Island ResortIndigo Bay Island Resort on Bazaruto is quite substantial with smooth paths and small golf carts for moving luggage (and sometimes guests) between the rooms. The resort was totally rebuilt in 2001 and completely re-arranged and up-graded in 2006. Indigo Bay is the largest resort in the Bazaruto Archipelago, and in design terms probably the most like a conventional hotel. Indigo Bay is family-friendly, its amenities and facilities are excellent, and the standard of service is high. (Read more about Indigo Bay Island Resort.

Bazaruto Lodge

pestana-bazaruto-lodge-leasure-and-services14

pestana-bazaruto-lodge

Bazaruto Lodge is situated in a bay on the north side on the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is a friendly and efficiently-run resort which is great value. It’s not swish or stylish, and they don’t fuss over you, but it has a laid-back, Mediterranean charm. The wide beaches and the calm and safe swimming areas make the Bazaruto Lodge family friendly. (Read more about Bazaruto Lodge…)

Dugong Lodge

Dugong_Beach_Lodge_7.jpg.1366x768_q85_crop_upscale

Dugong Lodge
On the mainland, a short boat transfer from Vilanculos town, you’ll find Dugong Lodge – a good value lodge for simple relaxation. Dugong Lodge is situated in the Vilanculos Wildlife Reserve and Marine Sanctuary. Activities are possible here but the best reefs are distant – around the Bazaruto Archipelago.
On the islands walking is the only option and between the islands boat are the only option. Sand dunes are found throughout the Archipelago and tidal flats and inland saline lakes support a wide variety of seabird species. Coral reefs are also home to thousands of fish and coral species and marine mammal species. The largest dugong population along the eastern African coast can also be found here.
A few days of sea and sun in the Bazaruto Archipelago is the perfect way to round off the year!

5 things to consider before joining an entrepreneurial Community

You know, we now have a lot of communities out there who say that they have ALL the solutions for entrepreneurs. You do not want to be a part of those people who part with their money and DO NOT get any value in return.

Here are 5 quick things you must consider before joining them:

What’s their track-record? : You need to know how long they have existed, their most important milestones and their most formidable results.

Which industry leaders are they associated with? : A community’s network is one of the most important values you can ever get. You need to constantly ask yourself which industry leaders they are associated with.

What are the people within their community currently saying? : Testimonials are very important. They prove that there is value being dished out. Ensure that the testimonials match up with the aspirations you have for your business.

Do they react quickly to feedback? : Assess how well they listen to feedback. This would tell you how important they take growth and how fast they are willing to evolve.

Would they help in solving your most crucial business challenges: Look at their value propositions, would it solve your crucial problems like: making more sales, reducing your costs, etc.

With these indicators you would be able to know what to expect when you join the community. Here are some of things I think you should know about Bellafricana:

Bellafricana has a track-record of helping creative businesses grow from point zero to a business exporting to customers in different parts of the world. We have done this for over four years.

We have a formidable association with industry leaders like the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, The Lagos State Chamber of Commerce, The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce, etc. A lot of members within our community have said that they have benefited immensely from the masterclasses and business resources that we put together for them on a regular basis.

We listen a lot to feedback and most of our community activities are feedback driven. Our community constantly does the following for entrepreneurs within our community: seal partnerships that help reduce your operational costs, provide guidance on how to make more sales, etc.

We can tell you want to join the network of domestic and international creative entrepreneurs that are members of the Bellafricana community. Yay! That is a very smart choice!

Click on this link to see all the membership packages available and how you can get onboard. To make things easy, you can call Seun on this number +234-909-367-0222 (He would help you through the onboarding process as well).

How do you Respond when a client says “I’ll get back to you”

How to respond when a client says I'll call you back

“I’ll get back to you”

Five dreaded words every salesperson hates to hear. Especially after you just spent 20 hours calling, and nurturing this client.

Then voila! They drop the bombshell.

How do you respond?

Some horrible responses to that line are:

“Oh Okay, I’ll be waiting to hear back from you”- When? Probably Never. Because those prospects will most likely not call back.

“Alright. When can I call back?”– In the prospect’s head, he’ll think ”Maybe, Never”

Well before responding hastily ( and losing the client all together), you must try to understand why the prospect used that line. The reason could be one of three:

  1. Prospect does not trust your product:

Think about it: It’s much easier for a prospect to say “I’ll get back to you”, than to say “Hi! I think your product sucks and I don’t want to waste my money”

  2. Prospect needs more time to make findings:

Some prospects aren’t going to base their decisions on some things you have told them. Instead, they would rather make their own findings, check out the competition, and weigh their options before making a decision.

3. They’re probably not the “Final say” in the hierarchy of the company’s affairs.

So, they will have to report to a “Higher Authority before making the decision to buy your product or service.

Response 1: Frontal

In my experience, whenever a prospect tells me that, it’s either of 3 things (Proceed to paraphrase 3 reasons mentioned above). Which one of them is it right now?

What that response yields: Complete honesty. It’ll help you understand the prospect’s state of mind, and will give clarity on how to proceed from there.

Response 2: Defensive

X, I understand why you may need to take some time to rethink this. But let’s be honest with each other. The longer time you take making a good decision for your business, the longer that problem you’ve been trying to manage stays. Tell you what, why don;t you take XXX advice (give a free tip) and apply this to your business. I’ll be waiting for your feedback …

What this response yields: You have just reduced your prospect’s “think about it” time, without coercion, and helped him out at the same time. Chances are that you’ll be hearing from him soon.

Response 3:  Vulnerability

X, I really appreciate your taking time to hear me out. From your response, it might seem that I haven’t exactly communicated the value you’ll be getting from us well. So, why don’t you tell me what you would have loved to hear, that would have helped make a better decision?

What this response yields: Again, you’ll take honest feedback which will help out …

Remember: These responses may not yield the results you desire all the time  It’ll however, help you perfect your sales skill, and help you work on areas that need adjustment.

Which of these responses are you planning to use?

Mother Nature’s : Victoria Falls

victoria-falls-1

Mother Nature’s : Victoria FallsThis Mother Nature’s : Victoria Falls generate mists that can be spotted from more than a dozen miles (20 kilometers) away. The mists also sustain a rain forest-like ecosystem adjacent to the falls and on the opposite cliff that faces them like a dried-up mirror image, thick with mahogany, fig, palm, and other species of vegetation.

Stone artifacts from the hominin Homo habilis have been identified near the falls and show that early humans may have lived here two million years ago. More “modern” tools also evidence far more recent—50,000 years ago—Middle Stone Age settlements.

Today several hundred thousand visitors from around the world trek to the falls each year; several hotels, restaurants, campgrounds, and other tourist businesses cater to them.

The beauty of the falls lies in their natural state, but the area is at some risk of runaway tourism-based development—more resorts, hotels, and even a possible dam below the falls that could flood several park gorges. Operators in the area offer everything from helicopter overflights to bungee jumping, and the management of these activities while preserving a quality visitor experience for all is an ongoing challenge.

Island on the Edge

Victoria Falls - livingstone-island-victoria-falls-1

How to Get There

Most visitors visit from either Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) or Maramba (Zambia), where complete tourist facilities exist. Each town is accessible by road, rail, and air.

When to Visit

The river is typically in full flood during February and March, when as much as 540 million cubic meters of water fall over the edge every single minute. During the rainy season, however, the spray plume can obscure the view of the falls themselves. By November, when the water is at low ebb, visitors may see the curtain split into many smaller channels of falling water.

How to Visit

The falls are massive and invite contemplation from many different viewpoints. Trails invite you to walk around the area and enjoy vistas. Unique views are also to be had from the Knife Edge Bridge and Victoria Falls Bridge. River-level views from below the falls are a good way to experience their power up-close. At certain times of the year the daring may even swim in pools on the very crest of the cataract.
