JZO’s founding duo – Joseph O. Ike, and Olamide E. Akindeinde are true fashion enthusiasts with a unique perspective on African Fashion, particularly the menswear genre.
At JZO, the belief is that African Fashion is not confined to “traditional” definitions, but can also be considered “contemporary”. The brand’s vision is that of a simple, unique, elegant and contemporary style of menswear influenced heavily by African themes but tailored to for the global minded consumer.
The JZO brand was born on the 4th of August. with their first work order being a friend’s traditional wedding attire. Joseph and Olamide have always known that there was a market for traditional outfits among older generations, but wanted to give them a contemporary twist.
They believe that men’s fashion is more daring and is a direction that is set to continue.
One would wonder how two bright young men with backgrounds in Biochemistry and Pharmacology ended up making a great mark in the fashion industry. I believe this is what happens when passion keep knocking, and we take heed to the call.
JZO’s rise to fame can be attributed to hard work, originality and well, you could say proper positioning and timing. They have been featured on some of Africa’s most elite magazines and top ranking online platforms like ELLE, Guradian, BellaNaija, Osengwa.com, to name a few. One of the high points in their career was showcasing at the first ever African themed Fashion show in Florida, the Ankara Miami Fashion Week in February 2015.
JZO designs have been worn by A listAfrican artists, Actors and various celebrities like, STephanie Aderinokun. Olamide, Adenkule Gold, IK Osakiodua, Noble Igwe, Denola Grey and many others.
We are still anxiously looking forward to all the amazing projects the JZO duo have in store for us. But just like many businesses, getting started and building a brand was no easy feat for them. But they learnt that it takes a lot more than having a great idea to build a business. It was a tough lesson to learn, but it was well worth it!
